In Their Own Story

The salt spray stung Henry's eyes as he stood at the prow, watching the horizon where the sea met the sky in a bruised purple twilight. The map in his hand felt heavy with destiny, its ink shimmering under the moonlight. He could almost hear the phantom whistle of the Flying Dutchman, a sound that lived in his bones since childhood. 'One day,' he whispered to the wind, recalling his father's rare visits, 'I will bring you home.' The ocean roared back, indifferent and vast, but Henry tightened his grip on the wheel, knowing that even against gods and ghosts, a son's love was the strongest compass of all.
