Sao Feng is the Pirate Lord of the South China Sea, introduced in *Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End*. He captains the Chinese ship *The Empress* and has a poor history with Jack Sparrow. When Hector Barbossa, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, Tia Dalma, and the surviving crew of the *Black Pearl* travel to Singapore seeking navigational charts to Davy Jones' Locker, Feng is reluctant to aid in Sparrow's rescue. During a battle with the East India Trading Company, Will secretly promises to give Jack to Feng in return for the *Pearl*, intending to use it to rescue his father.

Sao Feng is one of the nine Pirate Lords summoned to convene at Shipwreck Cove for the Brethren Court. He owns the navigational charts to Davy Jones' Locker, which the *Black Pearl* crew needs to rescue Jack Sparrow. Feng believes Elizabeth Swann is Calypso, the sea goddess, and hands her over to him after she is captured. He tells Elizabeth that the first Brethren Court bound Calypso in human form after her lover, Davy Jones, betrayed her; Feng plans to release her to defeat Cutler Beckett. Feng is wounded in an attack by Davy Jones, and before dying, he appoints Elizabeth his successor as Pirate Lord of the South China Sea. Chow Yun-fat played Feng, and his name "Sao Feng" (嘯風) means "Howling Wind" in Chinese. Chow was confirmed for the role in July 2005 while production of the second film was on hiatus.
In Their Own Story
In Singapore, the *Black Pearl* crew meets Sao Feng, who possesses the charts needed to reach Davy Jones' Locker. During a battle with East India Trading Company forces, Will Turner secretly promises to deliver Jack Sparrow to Feng in exchange for the *Pearl*. Later, after the crew returns from the Locker, Feng and Beckett's men attack the *Pearl* at an island. Elizabeth is handed over to Feng, who believes she is Calypso. Feng tells Elizabeth about Calypso's imprisonment and his plan to release her. When Davy Jones attacks, Feng is wounded and, dying, appoints Elizabeth his successor as Pirate Lord of the South China Sea.
